Issho – the hottest restaurant in Leeds

Issho - the hottest restaurant in Leeds | Joseph BurrowsSince opening at the beginning of June, Issho has been on the lips of everyone in Leeds. Situated on the roof of Victoria Gate, this new D&D restaurant serves incredible Japanese food in stylish surroundings; and with an amazing roof terrace, Issho is guaranteed to be the hottest restaurant in Leeds this summer.

You’ll be forgiven for thinking that Issho is quite small when you first walk in, but in fact this is just the bar area. But, past the roof terrace and towards the back, you’ll find a staircase which leads you through to the main restaurant. The restaurant is surrounded by stunning views of Leeds, whilst inside you’ve got the pleasure of watching the chefs at work in their open kitchen.

On my visit to Issho before opening night I was lucky enough to sample plenty of dishes from across the whole menu, including sushi, steak and even some eel! Now I have to admit, typically I’m not a lover of fish dishes, so I was a bit dubious about the amount of sushi I was going to consume throughout the evening. But I am pleased to report that, minus a small amount of dishes, I LOVED everything I tried.

The standout dishes for me on the menu (and the ones I’d definitely recommend) was the sea bass sashimi, the robata-style rump steak, and the duck leg bao buns. Because who doesn’t love bao buns, right? We need to talk about the Chef’s selection dessert platter as well, because wow there are some incredible dishes, including the most delicious apple and sake sorbet.

Unfortunately there are a few dishes I will be avoiding on my next visit, mainly the eel (because it was just a bit too fishy for me), and the tomato and tofu salad which I honestly just didn’t enjoy.

If an evening meal isn’t on the cards for you, then why not visit Issho for brunch with bottomless bao and bubbles? Or if you’re looking for a drink with a view, call into the Kori bar for some stunning cocktails.
